Nappies For Nork Delivery #1
As you may remember, the Nappies for Nork Fundraiser kicked off by Viviane Martini earlier this year collected $11,000 to purchase diapers for her son's former orphanage. After the fundraiser closed, another $1000 donation arrived, making the total $12,000. Together, Viviane and George Yacoubian, Founder and CEO of SOAR, decided to deliver $1000 worth of diapers for the next 12 months to the Children's Home of Yerevan in Nork Marash district.
A few days ago, the first monthly delivery was dropped off: 2740 Pampers. Viviane states "I am so happy for the children and want to thank again all who contributed to the fundraiser."

Nappies For Nork Raffle and Fundraiser
Nork orphanage is in dire need of disposable diapers and while it should be the responsibility of the Armenian government to supply those basic necessities, we all know the reality and economic constraints.
Let’s do a little quick math. In the US, you can purchase a brand-name diaper for between 15 and 30 cents each. In Armenia, they are a bit more expensive, so for ease of calculating, let’s say it’s 25 to 50 cents, depending on the size and brand. That means that for $1.50 to $3.00 a child at Nork can be clean and comfortable for an entire day. For around $70 a child has diapers for an entire month. Approximately $135 will keep every child at Nork in fresh diapers for a 24 hour period.
SOAR has already set up a diaper fund and you can make a tax deductible donation here: http://soar-us.org/donate.html. If you make a contribution in any amount between now and Easter Sunday and let me know at viviane8@yahoo.com, you will be entered into a drawing for these and other items:

Seed Money for Maria
As some of you may remember, I have advocated for a little girl named
Maria several times. Maria is 8 years old and described by those who
know her as a kind and inquisitive child. She gladly completes her
school work and already fluently speaks two languages, one of them
English.Maria has spina bifida and is wheelchair-bound. She also receives care for chronic UT conditions.
Maria has been living in a small, private orphanage in Eastern Europe which is run more like a home than an institution. She has seen two of her best friends adopted in recent years and wishes for a family of her own.
This fundraiser is intended to collect seed money for an agency grant for Maria. This grant will be given to the family who registers with Maria for adoption after meeting her in her hometown to assist with adoption fees. If no family commits to this lovely girl, the grant money will eventually be used to further Maria's education in her country.
Now how do I hope to raise some seed money? By selling seeds, of course. I have been tending a small, suburban organic garden for over a decade. I always buy my seeds from certified organic suppliers, but over the years have also learned to harvest my own seeds for the next year. This year I collected a lot seeds which I would like to share with those of you who love to grow vegetables and herbs or are looking for a stocking stuffer for gardening friends.
